With Easton’s first birthday falling during uncertain times, my husband and I had decided it was best to not throw him a birthday party. I was definitely devastated with this decision because anyone that knows me knows I love putting together events. (My dream job if I wasn’t a stay-at-home mommy would be to get into event planning or even wedding planning.) Plus it was his first birthday and the thought of not having a party to celebrate his first year of life made me sad to think about. It’s one of the those moments we won’t get back so for me it was a hard choice to make, but the right one.
Although we could have thrown Easton a party towards the end of the month or even later in the summer, it just didn’t feel right. We have always had both our families here to celebrate Jaxson’s birthdays and to not celebrate such a special milestone with them seems wrong, so we opted for no party and instead we celebrated our sweet boy at home with just us and a zoom Happy Birthday call with our family. Besides, a first birthday is just for the parents and photos anyways, right?
Celebrating Easton’s first birthday during quarantine was not exactly how I had imagined we would have celebrated it a few months ago. But even with the setbacks, we made lemonade with the lemons we were given and made it a very special day for our little boy.
To make Easton’s quarantine birthday special I ordered a balloon arch kit from Sweet Escapes by Debbie, a shop I had found off Etsy. I checked out multiple shops that sold these kits before finding one that was highly rated and also delivered the product in time. I did not expect it to be as difficult as it was to find companies that would deliver when I needed it. I even started looking at the beginning of May thinking it would give me enough time, but with Coronavirus and deliveries being all whacky, it was much harder than I thought. The balloon arch kit was super simple to put together and really made the day extra special. Along with the balloon arch, I had also purchased the word “one” in a cursive silver foil balloon and a large number one silver foil balloon. It also came with a hand pump to blow up the balloons. Even though we weren’t having a party, the balloons added a special touch to make it feel like a birthday. Plus, it gave us the perfect backdrop for some really cute photos. In my opinion, a birthday is not a birthday without some balloons!
I created a photo garland with all of Easton’s monthly milestone photos and hung it with some ribbon on our fireplace. I decorated the mantel with photos of Easton just to add an extra special touch. Plus, looking back at all his milestone photos really showed how much he grew up in a year. #imnotcryingyourecrying
I designed a milestone poster board for Easton that I had printed on mounted poster board and laminated at Office Depot. I have created a milestone poster for Jaxson’s first and second birthdays, so I just had to have one for Easton too. I love making them and keeping them as mementos to look back on. Plus, they make nice props for photos. I recommend getting the poster laminated and mounted so that it lasts for years.
I ordered three cupcakes from a local baker in Castle Rock called Sugar Sisters Bakery. The flavors I ordered were Death by Chocolate, Strawberry and Sugar Bear. The bakery came highly rated and offer curbside pickup. I got a cupcake for us to sing Happy Birthday with a candle during our Zoom call with family and it must have been really tasty because Easton ate the whole thing! Jaxson also ate most of his Strawberry cupcake and begged for my Chocolate cupcake, so I saved it for him to eat a different day. This also means I didn’t get to try the cupcakes, but I’ll take my kids eating the whole thing as a sign that they were delicious!
BIRTHDAY PHOTO SHOOT
I have already known for months I wanted to do a baseball themed birthday for Easton. So I stuck to this theme for his birthday photos that I ended up taking myself. I ordered the perfect baseball pants, belt and socks from an Etsy shop called My Sweet Chickapea. The owner was great to work with and helped me out when I had accidentally purchased the belt with no socks (believe me, the socks make the outfit perfect!). She also assured me that if I paid for rush shipping I would get all the items on time. Everything arrived quickly and looked so good! The pants are high-quality, fit my son perfectly with the stretchy waistband and he looked so cute for his pictures!
I ordered a baseball “One” Birthday shirt from Etsy shop Sweet Samantha. The baseball raglan shirt was super soft and the word “one” was sewn onto the shirt. I also got it personalized with Easton’s name on the back and it was exactly what I wanted. The shirt was so well made and the shop owner was so sweet. She made sure to ship it out as soon as possible so that I would have it on time for my sons birthday photos. It arrived within a week and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love it!
I also ordered a custom snapback back hat I found on Etsy. This hat is one of my favorite baby purchases ever! I am seriously obsessed with how it came out with the personalized leather brown patch. My son looks so cute when he wears the hat and I love how unique it is. I just ordered one for Jaxson as well because I love it that much! The shop on Etsy is called Ecko Inc. and they have four different color hats to choose from, four patch styles, three patch colors and different fonts as well. You can customize this hat to fit your style and it’s so well done! I might have to order one hat in every color for the boys, that’s how much I love them!
To complete Easton’s baseball outfit I ordered the baseball button-front shirt from Carter’s. They don’t sell this in baby sizes so I just ordered the size 2T for Easton and Jaxson. It gave Easton the over sized look and really helped put the whole outfit together exactly the way I had pictured. Honestly, the 2T was not as big as I thought it would be so it was perfect!
A pair of Converse completed the whole look and Easton was ready for his pictures! I seriously can’t get over how cute he looked and how much I loved his whole outfit.
I ordered a smash cake from a local baker here in Colorado called Suga Me Sweet. The baker works out of her home and makes some really beautiful cakes. Kristen the owner was so easy to work with and made a baseball themed smash cake for Easton’s photos. It was absolutely perfect and tasted really yummy! (Not going to lie, I cut myself a slice to try the cake after pictures were done.) It was also so reasonably priced for a cake that was going to get smashed by my one year old.
Honestly, Easton’s birthday was more special than I could have hoped for. I made him a french toast breakfast, we opened presents and spent the whole day playing with all his new toys. He was completely spoiled and it made my mama heart so happy. I still haven’t wrapped my head around the fact that my baby is officially a 1 year old. Being a mother is truly an emotional rollercoaster. As wonderful it is to watch my little Easton grow up, it’s cruel how quickly time passes. I wish I could keep him as my baby forever, but I am so happy with the little boy he is growing up to be.
